Africa Landmark Challenge” is an Initiative of OdikaOdi the Environmental / Educational NGO.
OdikaOdi was founded in January 2014 in response to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moom’s call for “Climate Champions”. The NGO works across the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) region delivering awareness training –primarily in schools and colleagues – on the issues relating to Climate Change.
The Objectives of the Africa Landmark Challenge are are;
(1) To raise awareness across Africa of Earth Day; an annual event celebrated on April 22, in which worldwide events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection.It was first celebrated in 1970 and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated by more than 2.2 billion people across 192 countries each year. It is the largest secular holiday globally.
(2) To raise awareness of “At Risk” Environmental Landmarks. In each of the 54 countries that make up Africa. Our aim over the course of 12 months starting on Earth Day 2015 and ending the following year on Earth Day 2016 is to have at least one person in each of those 54 countries be a Climate change champion.promote Earth Day and identify an “At Risk” environmental site within site country.
The Challenge will consist of sending sponsored t-shirts designed by us to every single African country within one year. The T-shirts will be posted out from our base in Umuahia, Nigeria, starting on Earth Day 2015, to supporters around Africa who will receive them and then be required to photograph themselves wearing the T-Shirts at “At Risk” Environmental Landmarks.
Each recipient having photographed themselves wearing the T-Shirt at an “At Risk” environmental site would then email them to us at Odikaodi.info@gmail.com, where on receipt, we would upload them onto our website www.odikaodi.com.
At the end of the yearlong Challenge, the entrants photo judged by our board of trustees to be the most imaginative in highlighting the “At Risk” environmental site within their country will win a prize of a round trip ticket to visit a Landmark in Africa of their choice.
To be eligible you must obtain a Africa Landmark T-Shirt /Polo in one of two ways (1) be a member of the NGO and the T-Shirt (Polo) is included in the price of membership. or (2) Buy the T- Shirt from us at retail price + postage & package.
